about a chair

Have you ever noticed that a solitary chair seems to have a personality all its own?

This one is regally posing for his portrait.  He doesn't need props to feel comfortable.  No side table with flowers to feel complete,  not a single pillow.    He is stoic and confident all by himself.

It doesn't bother him a bit that he's becoming a tad threadbare on top or that his seat is a little saggy.  Unlike most of us, he wears his age proudly -a badge of honor.  To be called "antique" is the ultimate boon.

He is charming and knows how to work a room, lending his star quality to the design whilst ever-willing to play the supporting role when duty calls:

All the prodigious posteriors at all those seven-course dinner parties!

All the children who have launched off  to infinity and beyond!

All those times he graciously subbed in as the lazy-man's ladder...

...These are the trials and tribulations of chairhood he endures with nary a complaint to be heard.  (Save for the slightest strain of a spring now and then.)

Chair, you are a good friend.  Stalwart and true.
Would that I might learn humanity from you.   :)

tub envy

Sigh.  Unfortunately, I don't currently have a bath tub in the little pied–à–terre we are renovating but I am looking around and trying to find a spot for one.   If I could work out the privacy issue, I'd have a bathing room that opened up completely to the garden.  I could soak my cares away amidst the scent of lavender and roses watching the hummingbirds and butterflies make their rounds on a sunny morning or slip into a midnight bath and count the stars.  —Doesn't that sound heavenly?

The wood elements and mix of textures in the rustic bathing room above results in a cozy, enveloping feeling.  To make it ideal, I'm imagining a fireplace on one wall and on the other, a bank of French doors open to a lush garden.  Actually, scratch that.  As long as I'm dreaming... I'm in the bath overlooking rolling hills somewhere in Tuscany.  Let's see...Montepulciano...San Gimignano...Yes.  That's the ticket.
 Ahhh.  ...Take me away!

"The best things in life..."

What woman wouldn't love to come home from a long day to find this waiting for her?  This would top my list of favorite gifts and it's virtually free.    —If guys only knew it was this easy. :)

Design Daily - iron and glass folding doors

Lovely room for dining.  The ability to fold off the doors completely is wonderful.  It also looks like it would make a great work space.  I can imagine an afternoon spent writing here or with ideas for my latest project spread out in front of me.    What do you think?
