A Sophisticated Blend

Antiques Dealer and Designer, Richard Shapiro, 

has struck a beautiful balance in his residence in Malibu.

  

Pieces from around the globe ... old and new, ornate and primitive...
all coexist peacefully. 

I am especially impressed by Mr. Shapiro's light hand with the antiques and decorative objects he used – with access to so many pieces, he could have easily filled every nook and cranny.  Instead, he wisely chose to leave much negative space throughout giving a relaxed, unpretentious air to the home.

Alfresco! Alfresco!

Isn't outdoor living the best? Reading, napping, dining...everything seems better outside.   I'm excited that the nights are getting warm enough for a little outdoor yoga. 

The renovation is still going on around here (don't ask), but I made it a point to clear out and reclaim what I call our "stone seating area" which is a relatively large semi-enclosed area.  There are built-in sofas for lounging, but there's also plenty of floor space for yoga.  

In the pre-renovation era, my daughter and I were known to head outside for midnight yoga sessions there, positioned where we could see the stars.  We  would light the fireplace and with the fountain gurgling and the moonlight shining,  we'd  follow Shiva Rea* for an hour or so, followed by a relaxing savasana to end.  

My recommendation for the most peaceful, rejuvenating sleep of your life?    

Late night yoga—alfresco!

Worth a Second Look

I've shared this image before, but it really caught my eye today as I was browsing around.  Maybe it is because it is yet another beautiful sunny day here in Southern California and once again, the bluest of skies.  It was the ideal temperature to have my cappuccino outside at our wood trestle table this morning -embraced by our immense stone fireplace with the sun filtering through the vines.  The gurgling fountain and birds chirping away...I spent a perfectly blissful hour reflecting on happy times spent there and looking forward to those to come -alfresco dinner parties and celebrations of milestones in our lives-  good times.
