A few recommendations from my daughter...things she has and enjoys as well as a few items still on her "wish list."

She's currently in Italy and I am missing having her here for the holidays!  I feel fortunate, however, to live in this day and age where technology helps bridge the miles between us.

 (Thank you Al for sharing.  Love you!  xoxo-mom)

August 8th Give-Away Prizes Revealed...

THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED, BUT PLEASE CHECK {HERE}FOR THE LATEST GIVEAWAY NEWS!

As you know if you have been following linen & lavender for awhile, I'm celebrating my one year anniversary of blogging by conducting a 3-part give-away.

June 8th, Tiffany of Southern California won
a 1 year subscription to Maisons Côté Ouest.
July 8th, Kristi of San Jose, California won
"The Home Within Us" by Bobby McAlpine.

The celebration culminates August 8th with
(drum roll please...)
one lucky reader receiving a

 $100 Gift Card

The winner will shop [the emporium] -My collection of favorite home design books and magazines along with CDs, movies and more.

And that's not all...

Four other names will be drawn and each winner will receive one of four travel books offered by TRAVELERS' TALES.

TRAVELERS' TALES has graciously offered to give 4 titles:

TRAVELERS' TALES ITALY: True Stories of Life on the Road;
TRAVELERS' TALES TUSCANY: True Stories;
30 DAYS IN ITALY: True Stories of Escape to the Good Life  -and the recently released:

100 PLACES IN ITALY Every Woman SHOULD GO by Susan Van Allen.
100 Places in Italy Every Woman Should Go (Travelers' Tales)
To add to the fun, I've decided to give everyone extra chances at winning, here's how it will work:

Make a comment on any post -past or present- between now and August 8th.  It can be as long or as short as you like, but it must include your name (or blog name -some way for me to identify you) and where you are from (no specifics please, just your country.)  Each time I receive a comment from you, your name will go into the hat.

So let's see...if you are a Follower, that's one chance.  If you are an Email Subscriber, that's another chance.  And if you make even just one comment every day from now - August 8th...that's at least 9 extra chances you'll have at winning.

So go forth...    Follow!  Subscribe!  Comment!
Good luck!!

P.S.  It is just a coincidence that both winners so far have been from my home state of California.  I just want to make it clear that the give-away has always included every one of my readers around the globe...Iceland, Indonesia, Australia...wherever you are.  If your name is drawn, I will figure out a way to get your prize to you no matter where you call home!*

Source Sharing - A Must Have: The Little Black...

...Broom?(!)

Yes.  That's right.  I'm excited about a broom I found, not a little black dress.

I have to say, this is typical of me and I know my daughter would concur.  While I love clothes as much as the next girl...it isn't uncommon for me to head out in search of an outfit, only to become distracted by the antiques shop we've just passed.  My daughter will be immersed in the handbag section, only to turn and realize I've wandered off to check out rugs in the boutique next door.

That's not to say it's always something extravagant I'm interested in.  Case in point is this handmade fireplace broom for just $21 I found today via Remodelista .  I don't know exactly why it appeals to me so much, but I had to have it.  I can just see it hanging on my white wall as a piece of functional art.  Never mind that the fireplace I'm imagining it next to has yet to be installed.  (I'm in the middle of renovating a 1920's English cottage style home. – More on that in posts to come.)

In any event, I've already ordered the broom and though I might not have the perfect spot just yet, I knew I'd be happy owning it.  For some, inexplicable reason I felt a connection to a dark little fireplace broom and when you know, you just know.  —You know?!
