"In the autumn and winter months, we strongly recall the smoky burn of leaves and firewood.  Accordingly, a priority for many of us when we imagine our ideal home is a fireplace. The hearth is a symbol central to a family's functioning, retooled for comfort and leisure.  Today we come together at the hearth, and at the first crackle of fuel set ablaze, we settle into the iconic smell of cold weather—flame on wood.  And like all nostalgia of scent, we name the experience:  Home."  ~Louis Sagar, excerpt from Zona Home

Noa
is a feminine Hebrew name, derived from a root that means “movement”.
Noa
is also Arabic, with the meaning of “light”.

Maria makes functional tableware with Eastern influences inspired from her travels abroad. Using antique Indian stamps to decorate her work and combining beautiful glazes with a special blend of textured clay, Maria’s work is both elegant and enticingly tactile.

She began potting in 2005, completed an apprenticeship at North Street potters in south London, then in 2006 she studied under Simon leach at his pottery in Spain. In both 2007 and 2008 Maria spent the winters working alongside Mike Goddard at Spring pottery in Bequia, The West Indies.

Since returning from the West Indies in 2008, Maria has established her own studio in West London from where she now works full time.    ~excerpt from the Noa Ceramics website.

Postcards are intriguing to me because people are confined to such a limited space for their message. Much like when you know very little of another's language and are reduced to just the basics. You are forced to reduce your communication -everything you wish to express to another person- to just a few lines of text.

This snippet, this brief peek into another person's life makes for a bit of a mystery leaving one much room for musing...

What was their story? Were they young or old? Were they in love and pining for the other? ...Maybe taking the opportunity while afar to express feelings not as easily conveyed in person?...
