Hi, JoAnn. Here's a website for you: www.corsican.com. Check out "headboards" but also be sure to click on "beds" as there will be more-(2393!)- ideas there. Many you will probably quickly rule out, but I think there will be several you'll like or at least elements you could pull/combine. Also, I once modeled a headboard after an old iron gate I saw at an estate in Italy. If you hadn't thought of this before, you might want to browse through images from France, Italy, Spain... and be on the look-out for any sort of wrought iron work that may inspire you. From my experience, one thing I suggest you consider doing is to have the lower portion upholstered.-Even if it is just enough that it is always hidden by your pillows. Some people don't mind the open wrought iron behind them, but others find that the upholstered piece is practical (pillows stay in place) and it provides a sense of warmth and balance to all the wrought iron.
Hope this helps. I'd love to see your finished design if you would care to share it when complete!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and informative response LeAnn. The idea of the iron headboard came when I visited the artist and saw a beautiful Florentine inspired gate he was just finishing! So your idea of researching iron work from Italy, France and Spain is perfection. I will let you know how it goes..... grazie mille!

I found a wonderful artist to make me an iron headboard and now I am researching designs. Can you recommend any resources from your library? grazie
